Cookie Policy
Last updated: 16 August 2026
The short version
ModWheel.net does not set any cookies, and does not store anything on your device for tracking purposes. There is no consent banner on this site because there is nothing to consent to. You can verify this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, look under Application → Cookies, and you will find the list empty.
There is exactly one exception, and it only happens if you ask for it. That is covered under YouTube videos below.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small files a website asks your browser to store, so it can recognise your device on a later visit. Related technologies — local storage, session storage, tracking pixels — do much the same job by different means. Under the EU ePrivacy rules, storing or reading anything on your device requires your prior consent unless it is strictly necessary to deliver something you asked for.
How we measure traffic without cookies
We want to know which reviews people read and which links they follow, because that is how we decide what to write next. We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service, configured so that our data is held in the European Union.
Umami sets no cookies and builds no persistent identifier for you. Instead of storing something on your device, it derives a temporary visitor hash from the website ID, the hostname and your browser's user agent, combined with a salt that is rotated daily. Once that salt rotates, yesterday's visits can no longer be connected to today's. Your IP address is used in transit to generate that hash and to derive a country, and is not stored.
We record which pages are viewed, which outbound links to retailers are clicked, the referring site, and coarse device and country information. We cannot identify you from any of it, and we do not try to.
YouTube videos
Some reviews and guides include a video. Those are hosted on YouTube, and YouTube does set cookies.
So we do not load them until you say so. The preview image you
see is a still frame stored on our own servers, not fetched from
Google, which means simply opening a page with a video on it
sends nothing to Google and reveals nothing about you. Only when
you click the play button do we load the player, from
youtube-nocookie.com, Google's most restrictive
embed. At that point Google receives your IP address and may set
cookies, and the notice on the player says so before you click.
If you never press play, Google never hears from you. Any cookies set after that point are Google's, governed by the Google Privacy Policy, and you can clear them from your browser at any time.
Affiliate links
Many of our product links are affiliate links, mostly to Plugin Boutique. We do not set a cookie when you click one. The retailer may set its own cookie once you land on their site, in order to credit the referral, and that is governed by their cookie policy rather than ours. Nothing is stored on your device until you leave ModWheel.net.
Controlling cookies
Because we do not set cookies, there is no preference for us to remember and no consent manager to configure. If you want to block the YouTube cookies described above, the most reliable method is simply not to play the videos. Every major browser also lets you block or delete third-party cookies outright, in its privacy settings, and doing so will not break anything on this site.
